THE PROBLEM

Recognising that insurance damage claims on Superyachts had the potential to be expensive the Underwriter was looking for a way to better manage the risks posed by these vessels from a claims perspective.

With prevention being better than cure MSI was approached to develop a risk assessment programme to help better inform the Underwriters differentiating the good from the bad.

Maritime Services International have undertaken more than 1100 Risk Assessments in a variety of conditions.

OUR SOLUTION

Returning to the original roots of Lloyds of London MSI developed a risk management review process that evaluated how well individual superyachts were run and managed and how risk disposed or risk adverse the operators of the superyachts were.

Using best practise (as in there was no better) and drawing from a wide range of sources (not limited solely to marine practice) the programme delivers practical advice and guidance to Owners, Managers and Captains identifying any areas were improvements could be made.

THE RESULTS

Since the first review took place in 1995 MSI has carried out over 850 risk management reviews on superyachts (as of April 2022) including just over 60% of the top 200 superyachts by length.
